Snorkeling Locations

Each snorkeling site we visit offers unique underwater landscapes and a diverse array of marine life. Here’s a closer look at some of the fantastic spots you’ll experience on a Tamarindo snorkeling tour:

• Catalinas Island: Known for its biodiversity, Catalinas Island offers some of the most exciting snorkeling on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. The volcanic rock formations and coral reefs here attract manta rays, sea turtles, and an array of colorful tropical fish. Perfect for adventurers hoping to spot larger marine life in a spectacular setting.

• Las Baulas National Marine Park: Named after the giant leatherback turtles that nest on its shores, Las Baulas is a protected marine area known for calm, shallow waters ideal for snorkeling. Here, you can expect vibrant schools of fish, starfish, and sometimes even dolphins, making it a fantastic spot for families and beginners.

• Tamarindo Bay: Located close to shore, Tamarindo Bay is a great location for new snorkelers or those looking to explore beautiful reefs in a laid-back environment. You'll find gentle currents, plenty of tropical fish, and stunning underwater rock formations.

Snorkeling Trips

Costa Rica is home to a massive variety of marine life that can be enjoyed by jumping in the water with a snorkeling equipment. We offer tours to Isla Santa Catalina, Playa Minas and other beaches with an abundance of tropical fishes, starfishes, octopus, turtles, rays, dolphins & more.

Half Day

During a half day snorkeling trip, we will explore one secluded beach, snorkel one or two different spots depending on the conditions and enjoy the sea life we find on our way. Snacks and drinks will be provided as well as all the snorkeling equipment needed to make the most of your time exploring the Costa Rican underwater world.

3/4 Day

During a 3/4 day, we will have time to reach Catalinas Island, if desired, which is located 10 miles from Tamarindo and have the opportunity to snorkel with more diversity or marine wildlife. With luck you could run into (swim into !) the majestic manta rays, reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, turtles, lots of fishes, starfish, eels, rays and more ! We can then explore a secluded beach on the way back and enjoy the view of the sea life and landscape of Costa Rica’s untouched beauty. During this trip snacks, drinks, snorkeling equipment and lunch will be provided to make sure your are taken care of !

Full day

During a full day, you will get the most out of your adventuring day with us as you can custom a combination of snorkeling different areas of Catalinas Island, swimming in the ocean, taking in the extraordinary views, visiting more than one secluded beach including Playa Carbon, Playa Minas, Playa Huevos, Bahia Piratas, Playa Conchal and more ! All the necessary snorkeling equipement, noodles to float around, snacks, drinks and lunch will also be provided during this full day of wonderful memory making with your family or friends !

• Snorkeling Gear: We provide all the necessary equipment, including masks, snorkels, fins, and flotation devices if needed. Our high-quality gear ensures comfort and clarity underwater, so you can fully enjoy the experience.

• Knowledgeable Guides: Our certified guides are experts in the local marine environment. They’ll be by your side to answer questions, point out unique species, and ensure a safe experience for everyone on board.

• Snacks and Refreshments: All tours include light snacks and beverages to keep you refreshed. Enjoy local fruits, snacks, and cool drinks as you take in the views from the boat.

• Transportation: Depending on the tour package, we can arrange pickup and drop-off services to make your journey seamless and comfortable.

Type of Boat

We use safe, comfortable boats designed to provide a smooth and enjoyable journey to the snorkeling sites. Our boats offer shaded areas to relax and avoid the sun, plenty of seating, and easy access points for entering and exiting the water. Life jackets and other safety gear are also available onboard.

What if I Don’t Swim? Advisory for Non-Swimmers

Non-swimmers are more than welcome on our snorkeling tours! Our tours are suitable for all skill levels, and we provide flotation devices to help you stay comfortable in the water. Our guides are experienced in assisting non-swimmers and can help you stay close to the boat with a life jacket for safety. Rest assured, the experience is just as enjoyable when you’re floating on the surface and taking in the underwater sights.

What Can You Expect Snorkeling in Costa Rica?

Expect an experience filled with wonder! Costa Rica’s Pacific coast is a true marine paradise, with clear waters and colorful reefs home to hundreds of species. You might see schools of angelfish, parrotfish, or even the occasional sea turtle gliding by. Rays, pufferfish, and sea stars are also common sightings. The waters around Tamarindo are calm, making visibility excellent and allowing you to spot marine life from a distance.

Snorkeling conditions do vary depending on the time of year and weather, but our guides monitor conditions to ensure you have the best possible experience. Whether it’s a short swim from the boat to a reef or a more extended snorkeling session, there’s always something beautiful to see.
